நிலம் துளைக்கும் நல்லரவின் வயிற்றில் துஞ்சும்
புலம் மூழ்கும் வெள்ளத்தில் புறம் வரும் சிற்றுடம்பால்
உலகாளும் கடவூர் நிலவின் பித்தருக்கே
எலியாவார் எம்பெருமாள்

சிறிய உடம்பால் உலகையே ஆளும் கடவூர் நிலவாம் அபிராமியின் பித்தருக்கு
எலியும் பெருமாளும் ஒன்றே.

எலி நிலத்தை துளைத்து தன் வலையை அமைக்கும்.
பெருமாள் வராக அவதாரத்தில் பன்றியாய் உலகைத் துளைத்தார்.

எலி பாம்பால் உண்ணப்பட்டு அதன் வயிற்றில் மடிந்து துஞ்சும்.
பெருமாள் ஆதி சேடனின் மடியில் துஞ்சுவார்.

எலியானது நிலம் மூழ்கும் வெள்ளம் வரும் காலத்தே வெளியே உயிர் பிழைக்க வரும்.
பெருமாள் நிலமெல்லாம் மூழ்கும் ஊழிப் பெருவெள்ளத்தில் மத்ஸ்ய அவதாரமாய் வெளியே தோன்றுவார்.

எலி தன் சிறிய உடம்பால் உலகெல்லாம் பரவி ஆளும்.
பெருமாள் வாமன அவதாரத்தில் சிறிய உடம்பால் உலகையே ஆண்டார்.

English meaning:

To those afflicted by the madness of the tirukkkadavUr moon that rules all worlds by her small body,
Vishnu and a rat are the same.

How?

The rat digs burrows in the earth to make its home.
Vishnu drilled the earth in his Varaha avatar.

The rat gets consumed by snakes and dies in its stomach.
Vishnu sleeps in the belly of Adi Seshan.

When the land gets flooded with water, the rat comes out.
When the world gets flooded in the primordial flood, Vishnu appears as the Matsya.

The rat rules over all lands by reproducing rapidly despite its small body.
Vishnu conquered all lands with his small frame as Vamana.
